JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WTAJ) -- An early-morning fire in Johnstown claimed the life of one resident, according to Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees.
Firefighters were called to the scene along Highland Avenue just before 4:30 a.m. Johnstown fire chief Jim McCann said they were met with heavy flames on the first floor of the apartment building.
McCann said a woman in her 60s was found dead in the living room on the first floor.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. McCann stated the fire was contained to the living room on the first floor. Other tenants in the building were able to escape. No damage was done to surrounding properties.
Lees added that an autopsy on the woman will be performed today. Her identity was not released.
