A popular Cecil County waterfront restaurant is gone after a massive early-morning fire tore through the building, causing more than $1 million in damage, investigators said.
According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the blaze broke out just before 1:40 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, at Unwined on the Water, located at 285 Plum Point Road on the property of Triton Marina.
Maryland State Police troopers were first on the scene and found heavy fire spreading through the rear of the two-story waterfront restaurant, officials said.
Crews from the Singerly Fire Company and surrounding departments battled the flames for nearly two hours before bringing them under control.
Due to strong winds, the fire spread quickly throughout the structure, collapsing the roof and both interior floors, officials said.
Heavy equipment was brought in to help firefighters remove large sections of debris. The restaurant was deemed a total loss.
Investigators say video surveillance showed the fire started around 1:10 a.m. and that no people or vehicles were seen on the property before it broke out.
“Deputy State Fire Marshals emphasize that there is no evidence of a criminal act, and all potential accidental causes are being considered,” the agency said in a statement.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
