BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The Ridgecrest City Council adopted an ordinance on Wednesday that makes property owners responsible for any illegal firework activity that happens on their property.
The city council considered the proposed ordinance Sept. 17. The item was brought back for a second reading and adoption at the Wednesday meeting.
Two members of the public spoke at the meeting, asking the city council to reconsider some aspects of the ordinance before adopting it.
The city council members and city staff said there has already been enough discussion regarding the proposed ordinance in a previous meeting.
Ridgecrest Police Captain Justin Dampier said, while he doesn't have the exact data, he sees small brush fires almost every night during the 4th of July period as a result of
