The story of Eric Abetz's first budget is more about what's not in it.

The treasurer spent a fair chunk of budget day reassuring Tasmanians that he knows the state's financial situation needs fixing, and that he's committed to "significant action".

But the "interim" document he handed down on Thursday doesn't contain many measures to do that.

What is in the 'interim' budget?

Tasmanian Treasurer Eric Abetz has vowed to take "decisive action" to rein in the ballooning debt, but the "interim" state budget contains few major initiatives.

In fact, the only three new savings measures — plans to reduce departmental communications budgets, lease fewer offices, and make "enhancements" to the procurement process — are actually labelled as "symbolic" in the budget document.
