FAUQUIER-STRICKLAND — The province is taking a deeper role in helping the Township of Fauquier-Strickland recover from its ongoing financial crisis.
A letter from Municipal Affairs and Housing of Ontario (MMAH) Minister Rob Flack was a last-minute addition to the township’s Nov. 3 regular council meeting agenda.
The letter, read aloud by deputy clerk Monika Malherbe, confirmed that the ministry is implementing a multi-part recovery plan that includes a provincial audit, loan discussions, and additional short-term funding.
Based on the ministry’s review of the township’s financial situation and “current observations of staffing, administrative and governance challenges,” Flack wrote that it is clear that Fauquier-Strickland “will not be able to meet its financial obligations in the short
