Two thousand runners are coming to this year’s Manchester City Marathon, one of the biggest marathons in the state. The course goes through city streets, which will be closed to traffic, and drivers should expect delays as a result.

The most notable road closure will be in the heart of downtown Manchester: Elm Street between Granite Street and Bridge Street. Both directions on the street will be closed from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

“No parking” signs will be posted before the marathon, and city police said vehicles that aren’t adhering to these notices will be towed away.

Race organizers advise people to access downtown via Interstate 293 at Exit 6 to Amoskeag Bridge, or at Exit 4 to Queen City Avenue, but not in between. Exit 5 to Granite Street will be closed from 8:50 a.m. to 4 p.
