SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities say two teens are in custody following a carjacking in Bishopville that ended in Sumter County on Thursday afternoon.
The Bishopville Police Department said the incident began around 12:50 p.m. at the Food Lion grocery store in town. Officials said two armed 17-year-old suspects carjacked a Dodge Charger at the location.
The Sumter County Sheriff's Office confirmed that its deputies, as well as law enforcement from Lee and Kershaw counties, were involved in a pursuit of the vehicle as it entered Sumter County.
The Sumter County School District stated that Hillcrest Middle School was temporarily placed on a precautionary lockdown due to law enforcement activity in the area. One person was soon apprehended, and another was caught with help from K-9 units.
