ABBEVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The mayor of Abbeville was censured by city council on Tuesday night after multiple community leaders came forward with ethics complaints.
Business owner Robert Weichmann, Chief of Police Nick Moore, and Utilities Director Tim Hall all filed complaints alleging Trey Edwards has been misusing his position as mayor.
The police chief’s complaint states that Edwards has been filing increasing code complaints against local businesses that compete with ones where he has a financial stake, such as Soggy Bottom Grill House.
“These repeated complaints represent a clear abuse of authority with the intent to obtain personal financial again,” Moore wrote in his complaint.
