Moments after Riverhounds SC locked up a home match in the USL Championship Eastern Conference playoffs, midfielder Robbie Mertz was asked about the last time the team hosted a postseason game.

He said initially it had been a while since he had played one at home. Then he was reminded of 2023.

“I actually almost forgot about that,” he said. “It does feel like it’s been a while, though.”

You can’t really fault him for trying to put that particular game out of his mind. Most of the organization and fans would like nothing more than to forget the 1-0 loss to Detroit City FC at Highmark Stadium in the opening round of the 2023 tournament.

But the fourth-seeded Riverhounds (13-10-8) will finally have an opportunity to rid themselves of any semblance of the memory of that loss when they host
