NEWARK - Just four months ago, the sound of construction equipment echoed through the hollow space at 23 William St. in Newark’s Teachers Village, which has been vacant for a decade, as laborers smoothed over the new concrete floor in the 10,000-square-foot building.

This would soon become the new home of GlassRoots, a Newark-based glass-blowing art center, providing a space nearly twice the size of GlassRoots’ current location at 10 Bleeker St.

Significant headway has been made since the space was nothing but a hollowed-out ground floor with a still-drying concrete slab, bringing the vision of expanding access to art programs one step closer to reality. Walls are erected, “coming soon” decals are plastered on the windows, and bays are framed where the future furnaces will go. GlassRoo
