Every month the federal government shutdown continues will reduce Michigan’s economic output by around $1.6 billion.

Each week the shutdown continues could reduce Michigan’s output - or gross state product - by around $361 million, according to an October report by the White House Council of Economic Advisors (CEA).

“A shutdown may have wide-ranging economic effects that reduce the prospects of Michigan constituents through lower growth, higher unemployment and disruptions to Social Security and nutritional support to women with infant children,” the analysis reads.
