LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Attorneys for the Democratic Party of Arkansas made a court filing on Thursday demanding the governor move up special election dates.

The filing comes after the governor’s office lost a suit filed by the DPA that asserted that the March 3, 2026, primary and June 9, 2026, election dates to fill the seat of outgoing Rep. Carlton Wing (R-70) were too far out and needed to be moved up. These dates meant District 70 would not be represented in the April legislature fiscal session, they argued.

The Pulaski County Circuit Court Judge Shawn J. Johnson upheld the DPA argument. A similar case with identical dates for the seat held by the late Sen. Gary Stubblefield (R-26) was upheld a week earlier.
