CHARLOTTE, N.C. — After six long years, the trial for the two men accused of killing Brooks’ Sandwich House co-owner Scott Brooks during a robbery attempt at the family’s iconic NoDa restaurant is underway.
Steven Staples and Terry Connor are charged with murder in the 2019 killing that devastated the tight-knit community and drew citywide attention.
David Brooks, Scott’s twin brother, says he’s preparing for an emotional process but is eager to see the case move forward.
“I’m looking forward to hearing the opening statements and getting this trial underway and get some justice for my brother,” Brooks said.
The family has continued to run Brooks’ Sandwich House through grief, supported by loyal customers and other small business owners who have stepped in to help.
