LAVEEN, AZ (AZFamily) — Recent storms destroyed a road in Laveen, damaged a canal, and flooded nearby properties.
“When it rains, it is like a raging river going down the road. The pavement buckles, it goes everywhere,” said Tori Jones.
The flooding happened several weeks ago during storms that rolled through the Valley.
Lupe Tellez, who has lived in the south Phoenix area off 35th Avenue and Elliott Road for decades, said some trees were washed out and her pool filled with mud.
“Three inches thick of mud,” Tellez said.
Residents point to new development
According to Tellez, the flooding problem began when a new neighborhood was built across the street and the area’s drainage changed.
“Nothing like this ever happened before those homes were built,” she said.
