COLUMBUS — A bill that explicitly permits public school educators to teach students about the “positive impact” of Christianity on American history has drawn enthusiastic support and harsh criticism from northwest Ohio residents during recent Ohio House Education Committee hearings.

State Rep. Gary Click (R., Vickery) said his legislation, House Bill 486, also known as the Charlie Kirk American Heritage Act, does not impose new mandates on public school teachers or college professors.

“It simply removes the invisible shackles that often hinder a full and transparent teaching of American History,” he said during sponsor testimony on the legislation.
