EFFINGHAM, Ill. (WCIA) -- A man from Virginia is no longer facing arson and burglary charges stemming from an incident that happened in Effingham this May, as he was found not guilty by reason of insanity.
On the night of May 20, Effingham Police officers responded to the reports of a man damaging property at Land of Lincoln Credit Union. While on their way to the scene, they were informed the suspect had also forcibly entered Al's Tire Mart after breaking its glass door.
Officers arrived on scene to find 38-year-old Patrick Galyen of Fredericksburg, Virginia, fleeing from Al's on foot. He was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit. They also recovered stolen property from Al's and found damage to the credit union's ATM that tied Galyen to a car fire in the Walmart parking lot nea
