Portland police served 39 warrants and arrested 40 people during the first five days since the city resumed enforcement of its camping ban, the city said in a press release Thursday.

Beginning Nov. 1 , Portland police began more strictly enforcing the city’s camping ban at the direction of Mayor Keith Wilson. Wilson said that no one would be arrested simply for camping under the ramped up enforcement, but those engaged in criminal activity or with existing warrants would be. City outreach workers accompanied officers to all campsites.
