QUINCY (WGEM) - Local auto shop estimators see an increase in deer collisions and warn drivers to be cautious on the roads.

The Illinois Department of Transportation reports October and November are peak months for winter deer movement and is reminding drivers not to be distracted and stay prepared while traveling.

November is historically one of the highest months for deer-related crashes, due to mating season causing deer to move more frequently and unpredictably.

Officials said drivers should be cautious while travelling right now and should watch for deer crossing signs as well as use high-beam lights at night.

Officials added to maintain a safe following distance from other vehicles and slow down, and keep an eye out for deer.
