BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The father of an 8-year-old boy who was hit and killed by an alleged drunken driver told police he tried to pull his son out of the way as a pickup careened toward them.
They were seated at a table eating lunch Monday at a food truck in East Bakersfield when he saw the pickup rapidly approach, the father said. He stood up and grabbed Xxavien Lee Alvarez by the arm.
It was too late.
The truck hit them, and the next thing the father saw was Xxavien lying unconscious on the table, the father said according to court documents that became available Thursday.
Xxavien was treated at Kern Medical then flown to Valley Children's Hospital in Madera. He died the next morning.
