PESOTUM, Ill. (WCIA) -- Around five acres of land in Champaign County were burned on Thursday after a fire broke out in a field.
The fire happened east of Pesotum in the area of County Roads 1100 East and 200 North. The Pesotum Fire Protection District responded as the lead agency, with the Villa Grove Fire Department responding as mutual aid.
The Pesotum Fire Protection District did not respond to WCIA's requests for comment, but Villa Grove's Assistant Chief, Chris Elston, was able to provide some details.
He said the fire started around noon, and approximately 10 firefighters responded. Elston said that the fire was the result of bean stubble and grass burning, but he couldn't say what caused the fire.
