WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - A leak in a water main has disrupted flow to Watertown’s water treatment plant.

City workers found the leak in an underwater pipe near Delano Island during routine maintenance.

It brings water from the Black River into the plant to be treated.

Immediately, city workers isolated the leak by turning off the water flow. It’s back on, but fewer gallons coming in means fewer gallons going back out right now - a change that residents shouldn’t notice, though.

“We’re just shy of what our normal flow is right now, so, unless something else happens, knocking on wood, the city residents are fine, and we’ll continue to produce the water that they need,” said City Manager Eric Wagenaar.

The fix right now is temporary.
