BLOUNTVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Tri-Cities Airport said connecting flights may be impacted by a nationwide flight reduction beginning Friday, but the airport remains fully operational.

The Federal Aviation Administration announced Wednesday that the agency would reduce flight capacity by 10% across 40 "high traffic" areas to maintain safety amid the government shutdown.

Three major airports with flights to and from Tri-Cities — Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Charlotte Douglas International, and Dallas/Fort Worth International — are expected to be impacted.

In a social media post, the Tri-Cities Airport said changes at major hubs may impact connecting flights.

"Our team continues to monitor the situation and will share updates as they become available," the post state
