GRAND JUNCTION Colo. (KREX)- The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the U.S. Department of Transportation announced Wednesday that flights at the nation’s 40 largest airports will be reduced by 10% amid staffing shortages linked to the ongoing federal government shutdown.

FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said the move aims to “reduce the risk profile in the national airspace” while the shutdown continues to strain the agency’s workforce.

While the cuts primarily target major airports, the potential ripple effects have travelers in Grand Junction watching closely.

“Grand Junction is not one of the 40 largest airports in the country, so we do not expect to be directly impacted,” said Angela Padalecki, CEO for Grand Junction Regional Airport. “
