A push to end Alaska’s ranked-choice voting system is moving forward.

Members and supporters of a group called “Repeal Now” marched to the Division of Elections office in downtown Anchorage on Thursday, delivering over 48,000 signatures for a proposed ballot measure to repeal ranked-choice voting in the state.

Bethany Marcum of Repeal Now explained the next steps:

“They have 60 days to review the signatures and to make sure that we have the right number of signatures in total as well as the right number per district because we have to have signatures in 30 of the 40 districts, and then once they certify that we have all of that, then it gets approved to be on the ballot.”

Alaska first used ranked-choice voting in 2022, and in 2024, voters considered a similar measure to eliminate it —
