BUCKSPORT, Maine (WABI) - A recount of Bucksport’s school board election resulted in a tie Thursday after incumbent Keith Kneeland Jr. requested a review of the vote count.
Kneeland is seeking a second three-year term representing the town on the RSU 25 board. The count on election night showed Emily Fitzgerald winning by three votes.
After Thursday’s recount, both candidates received 773 votes. There were 187 blank ballots.
Town officials said they will consult with the town attorney on how to proceed. The secretary of state’s office may get involved because the town doesn’t have anything in its charter that specifies what happens in a tie situation.
