Nearly 39 million people across the country are living with diabetes.

Dr. Steven Fox is a family medicine doctor at the UT Family Medicine Residency Program.

Dr. Steven Fox, UT Family Medicine, says, “It causes damage to multiple organs in our body. Diabetes, the most common cause of blindness in our country, can damage the blood vessels in the back of the eye. It's a very common risk factor for heart disease, like heart attacks or strokes.”

During diabetes awareness month, Dr. Fox says it is important to remind people about the prevalence and danger of diabetes, along with the two different forms.
