LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Starting Friday, the Federal Aviation Administration will cut flights at 40 of the nation’s busiest airports due to the ongoing government shutdown, potentially impacting passengers traveling through Blue Grass Airport.
According to Community Relations Manager Lauren Simmerman, Blue Grass Airport serves anywhere between 1,500 to 4,000 passengers daily, with about 30 departures and arrivals each.
Blue Grass Airport is not among the 40 airports facing direct cuts, but many flights from Lexington connect to major hubs that are affected, including Atlanta, Chicago, and Detroit.
“It is a little too early to tell exactly how [the FAA is] going to play out that 10% reduction,” said Simmerman. “Certainly there could be impacts to our passengers out of Blue Grass.”
