NOLESNVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) -- The Nolensville Police Department will soon start training with state-of-the-art interactive equipment that places officers in crisis situations and then teaches them to calmly defuse such incidents.
The training is made possible by a roughly $217,000 federal grant from the U.S. Department of Justice.
NPD has 23 sworn officers, all of whom will soon be taking the specialized de-escalation training focused on dealing with subjects in crisis and learning to bring the conflict to a peaceful conclusion.
"Whether it be mental health crisis, behavioral issues, or just having a really bad day, it's going to offer tools for the officers to de-escalate, to really slow things down, figure out how to best handle the situation, and the goal is to minimize uses of force
