KINGSTON, N.Y. — City police are asking for a just under $306,000 budget increase in 2026 under the city’s proposed $63.3 million budget plan.
With the $305,911 increase, the total 2026 police budget line comes in at $15,845,502. Police Chief Egidio Tinti said during a presentation to the Common Council’s Finance and Audit Committee on Wednesday that the increases are mainly related to contractual expenses and increased benefit costs. Tinti highlighted health care as one of the sharpest increases the department has faced.
Tinti also confirmed that the department has assigned an officer to the Radio Kingston park at the corner of Broadway and Liberty Street to address calls.
“There have been a number of calls there that have required a more speedy response,” Tinti told lawmakers.
