NORFOLK, Va. — A Suffolk man pleaded guilty Thursday to second-degree murder for fatally shooting a bystander who tried to intervene in a domestic dispute earlier this year in Norfolk.
Prosecutors said 25-year-old Lamont Charles Whitaker shot and killed 23-year-old Miyett Antwione Little Jr . on the night of January 15, after Little overheard an argument between Whitaker and his girlfriend outside her apartment on Greenleaf Drive.
Little approached the couple to defuse the situation, prosecutors said. Whitaker pulled a gun and shot Little 10 times, killing him. Little was unarmed.
Whitaker called 911, identified himself as the shooter, and waited for police to arrive. He later told detectives he fired because Little walked up behind him.
