COLUMBIA — The Federal Aviation Administration and U.S. Department of Transportation have ordered airlines to reduce flights to airports including Chicago O'Hare, Dallas/Fort Worth and Denver international airports.

The FAA has released a list of 40 airports where flight cuts will take effect starting Friday, and every destination the Columbia Regional Airport services is listed.

COU's flight status page showed no cancellations around 4:30 p.m. Thursday. It's unclear how or whether flights out COU will eventually be affected, but a flyer at the airport Thursday said he was concerned about air travel.

"It's pretty shocking, Chicago is such an important hub for the entire United States," flyer Haven McVarish said.
