CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - The international airport in Charlotte, North Carolina was among those expected to see a reduction in flight traffic amid the federal government shutdown, officials confirmed Thursday.

Charlotte Douglas International Airport is one of 40 airports in the U.S. that will experience a decline in air traffic amid the government shutdown, airport officials said on Thursday, Nov. 6.

It was announced Wednesday that the Federal Aviation Administration, or FAA, would be cutting air traffic by 10% across dozens of “high-volume” markets starting the morning of Friday, Nov. 7.

While the agency didn’t immediately identify the affected cities or airports, it later became clear that airports in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles would be affected, in addition to Charlotte
