MADISON, Wis. -- Forward Madison had a disappointing end to their season last month, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2022. But instead of moving on from head coach Matt Glaeser, the club is bringing in some reinforcements.
Matt Cairns will become Forward Madison's first sporting director, the club announced Thursday. The job title has become a popular one amongst European clubs in recent years.
The sporting director sets the club's transfer and contract strategies while acting as a go-between for the coaching staff and club owners. Cairns' hiring should allow Glaeser to focus less on player scouting and signing, and more on on-field tactics.
