BROCKTON, Mass. —
Montilio's Bakery in Brockton, Massachusetts, is taking the cake when it comes to celebrating the United States Marine Corps' 250th birthday.
Literally.
The bakery got an order to design and bake a cake for one of the Marines' birthday celebrations in Boston.
It took three days and several bakers to create a 5-foot-tall vanilla cake, which included an eagle, globe, and anchor, made of chocolate and edible gold.
The cake will be served to 2,000 Marines at the Boston Convention Center on Friday.
The bakery's owner calls it an honor.
"We're so happy to be doing it and lucky," said George Montilio. "It's just a great moment for the company if you think about it. We've done a lot of celebration cakes, but this is pretty special."
