COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Columns Drive is set to receive a facelift as crews begin a project to improve safety along the corridor.
On Friday, the Cobb Department of Transportation will begin the "Columns Drive Improvement Project". Workers are expected to remove 47 of the 157 median trees within the right-of-way. Removal of tree stumps and dead trees, as well as the selective pruning of trees, is also expected in the first phase.
The 47 removed trees will be replaced by 50 trees along the median of Columns Drive. Rhododendron shrubs are also expected to be planted, according to officials. Planting is expected to be largely completed by early January 2026.
“We believe this solution will make Columns Drive safer and more attractive,” Cobb DOT Director Drew Raessler said. Credit: Cobb Count
