Opposition Leader Sussan Ley has brushed off Liberal senator Sarah Henderson’s declaration that she had lost faith in the direction of the party as disunity within the opposition escalates.

Henderson’s claim that Ley was “losing support” amid low poll results and disagreements on emissions reduction policy came a day after another conservative backbencher slammed Ley for her decision to drag MPs back to Canberra next week for talks on energy policy.

Other MPs have since backed Ley’s leadership, and conservative Liberals rebuked Henderson for her comments.

Henderson repeatedly declined to back Ley’s position on Friday morning in a round of media appearances.
