MINOT, ND (KXNET) — Every year, more than 100,000 people are rushed to the emergency room with carbon monoxide poisoning, and more than 1,000 of those individuals die from it. With November being Carbon Monoxide Awareness Month, local fire departments across North Dakota have tips on how you can stay safe and avoid falling victim to this silent killer.
Carbon monoxide comes from just about anything that burns, including stoves, engines, furnaces and all kinds of other gas-powered appliances. The best way to protect yourself is to install carbon monoxide detectors in your house wherever possible. Aaron Peterson, a captain of the Minot Fire Department, says you should have at least one detector on every level of your house, and preferably one in every room.
