OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — On Thursday, about 40 volunteers participated in a cleanup on Melton Hill Lake as part of CNN’s "Call to Earth Day" and removed 1,878 pounds of trash.
"Call to Earth Day" is an international campaign that calls for participants worldwide to improve their communities.
Many of the volunteers were from Knoxville Montessori School, the University of Tennessee, the Oak Ridge Power Squadron and the Melton Hill Lake Users Association.
The trash collected included 75 bags of litter, among other items.
The month of November is also called "No Trash November," which is a statewide call to action by Nobody Trashes Tennessee to reduce litter where we live, work and play.
