BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- The Associated Press is reporting flight cancellations will begin Friday around the country.
These cancellations are in response to the FAA ordering 40 airports to reduce air traffic due to the ongoing government shutdown.
Birmingham is not one of the airports on the list that the FAA has ordered to reduce air traffic. However, there are airports on that list that Birmingham flies directly out to, which the airport says may cause delays.
Joie Barksdale flew into Birmingham Thursday to visit her grandson at the University of Alabama. She says that, when she landed and turned on her phone, she got startling news.
“We just got an announcement on our phone that there would be 10% cut. So, we don't know if we'll be included in that,” Barksdale said.
