An 8-year-old girl is dead following a collision in Oakville on Thursday, where an SUV struck two pedestrians, Halton police say.

Just before 4 p.m. on Thursday, police were called to the area of North Service Road West and Lindsay Drive. An SUV went off the road and struck a 39-year old woman and her daughter, according to Halton police.

Police say both were taken to trauma centres and the child died, despite life-saving efforts.

A 47-year-old Oakville man has been arrested and is charged with dangerous driving causing death, police say.
