Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) announced his prediction for the 2028 Democratic front-runners Thursday evening: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and New York City’s Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani .
Mamdani is ineligible to be president or vice president of the United States, as he was born in Kampala, Uganda. But Cruz insinuated that the constitutional barrier would not matter to the Democrats.
“I think, right now, the two front-runners for the Democratic nomination for the presidency in 2028 are AOC and Mamdani. Now, he’s not even eligible. But what do they care? Law doesn’t mean anything to them. That’s where their party is,” Cruz said in an interview with Fox News’s Larry Kudlow on Thursday.
New York City voters elected Mamdani as their next mayor on Tuesday after he ran a campaign foc
