BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Mayor-President Sid Edwards named Christel Slaughter as the new permanent chief administrative officer.

Slaughter was appointed to the role permanently after being named acting CAO in September. The previous CAO, Charlie Davis, transitioned into a new role focused on streamlining local government.

“Christel Slaughter is a proven leader who understands the complexities of government, values collaboration, and has an unwavering commitment to the people of East Baton Rouge Parish,” said Edwards.

According to Edwards, he intended to launch a national search for a new CAO as Slaughter served in the interim position; however, he said, it "became clearer to me that she was the right person for the job. We found our national pick right here in Baton Rouge."
