BELLEVUE, Neb. —
Around 500 people are expected to pack the Beardmore Event Center in Bellevue Friday night for the "Officer Chris Abbott Memorial Holiday Heroes Chili Cook Off."
The event raises funds for the Holiday Heroes program, also known as Shop With a Cop. It's named after Bellevue police Officer Chris Abbott , who died in 2023 from a medical emergency.
Roger Cox, the community relations and social media manager for Bellevue police, said Officer Abbott loved the annual chili competition.
"He never really cared so much about the taste of the chili as he did about hoisting that trophy at the end of the night," Cox said. "What Chris really wanted was to see enough money raised to take those 100, 150 children shopping for the holidays that this event supports."
