EUREKA, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A ballot measure to increase teacher and staff salaries in the Rockwood School District failed this week by just under 500 votes.

Proposition S would have added a 45-cent levy to property taxes for those living in the Rockwood School District. The measure was designed to raise teacher and staff salaries.

“This is not a time for panic. It’s a time for resolve, it’s a time for reflection, it’s a time for focus,” said Dr. Curtis Cain, Rockwood’s superintendent.

Cain said he has met with teachers and the teachers’ union since the loss. He told First Alert 4 he’s focused on keeping the district competitive.
