BISMARCK, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A national fight over funding of SNAP benefits ripples out to communities and families, leaving many feeling uncertainty and anxiety about how to put food on the table.
It’s what led four churches in this rural St. Francois County community of Bismarck to join forces to provide free meals for families struggling with delays in SNAP benefits.
On Thursday, when Bismarck United Methodist Church began serving, a line of cars formed to pick up the meals. Approximately 85 meals were distributed within the first 10 minutes.
Leo Sansoucie was among several dozen people who drove to the church on Thursday to pick up a meal for his family.
