Crossroads Church walked back a plan to distribute gift cards to families who are struggling amid the loss of SNAP benefits during the government shutdown.
The program was slated to begin Thursday and end on Nov. 20, with $100 grocery gift cards available for people in need. Advertisement
Crossroads Church said people needed to provide their proof of SNAP enrollment and a state-issued identification card to receive one.
On Thursday evening, the church sent a follow-up message to the community, saying the need was overwhelming and all the gift cards had been distributed faster than anticipated.
