(TNS) A Kentucky sheriff’s deputy struck and killed a pedestrian while searching for a burglar Wednesday, according to state police and the Christian County Sheriff’s Office.

The pedestrian matched the description of the suspect for whom the deputy was searching, according to the sheriff’s office. The office did not say if they confirmed the pedestrian was the suspect.

Brandon Higgins, 40, of Hopkinsville, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to state police.

The collision happened Tuesday evening on Madisonville Road near Mt. Zoar Latham in Hopkinsville. State police said a Christian County sheriff’s deputy was responding to a call for service and struck a pedestrian who was in the road.
