EAST WILLIAMSBURG, Brooklyn (WABC) -- Police are investigating the sex assault of a 12-year-old girl inside a NYCHA apartment building in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

It happened in the lobby of the Cooper Park Houses around 5:45 p.m. Thursday.

The Crime Scene Unit was on the scene near Morgan Avenue, collecting anything that might have been left behind and any forensic evidence.

Their investigation is still underway as of Friday.

Police say the girl was attacked by a stranger in the lobby and stairwell area.

The man ran off after the attack.

Police say they're looking a man in his 20's, 5'6" tall with brown eyes and black hair.

The 12-year-old victim was taken to a local hospital and is listed in stable condition.
