CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio — Nearly 10 months after a massive fire tore through the Cedar Lee-Meadowbrook apartment complex in Cleveland Heights , reconstruction of the $66 million project is well underway .
Smoke and flames filled the air that frigid January night as firefighters battled the blaze for more than 20 hours. The heat from the fire clashed with the freezing temperatures outside, creating a dangerous scene for crews working to get it under control.
“Fire trucks with ladders, they were there to fight this fire and some of them, they were sliding because as soon as they were pouring the water, it was freezing,” said Cleveland Heights Chief Building Official Eric Elmi.
