A major road in Cambridgeshire will be closed for repairs this weekend. The A1 southbound will be closed from 9pm to 5am on Saturday, November 8, and Sunday, November 9.

A National Highways spokesperson said: "In late 2024 the culvert supporting the A1 over Billing Brook at Water Newton near Peterborough was damaged in a traffic collision.

"As a result, we had to close the A1 southbound lane one over Billing Brook for safety reasons. We need to temporarily re-align the A1 southbound so we can open two lanes for traffic while avoiding the damaged culvert

"We started overnight preparations for main works from 1 September. On 12 September, we started realigning the carriageway. We'll start repairing the damaged culvert in 2026-27."

The agency expects to provide two lanes on the A1 south
